I finally found PROVOX 7 with the help of a friend. Not only does it contain the code of the actual screen reader but also the program that, I'm assuming, was used to write it. It's called A86 assembler package. so this helps a lot for anyone who may want to tweak the reader in the future. But back to the user end, the installation instructions for PROVOX were all manual. At least, nothing was mentioned about an automatic install program, which I find a bit strange, since most screen readers come with one. Even weirder is the fact that it could be loaded either as a tsr or as a device driver. I've never heard of any screen reader being loaded as a device driver and thought all were tsrs. How is this possible and what would be the differences in usage? Also, it doesn't appear to support either the Echo PC/GP or the KeyNote VoiceCard but it does support the Accent, so I'll either see if I can get mine to work (once I find it) or download the accent simulator from Humanware. Speaking of which, they mentioned simulated serial and parallel ports? What on Earth?
Leave the code alone unless you want to learn the language. Not really sure about the simulated ports...maybe they are talking about the old virtual machine? Not sure.
